#Sheetcam discount code for free
I'm naive, so I hope that DMG will give me a copy for free I can see form the documentation that it was purchased for the machine, but it was lost on the way. I also need to find a copy of the Deckel DNC software. I intend to simply export DXF and convert it with Sheetcam for a start. That is difficult to buy anywhere and it has already saved us a lot of trouble (=money).įor now, I'll focus on moving to Solidworks. And when things are critical, I work 20 hours a day plus weekend. Even though it's an electronics company, having access to fast mechanical prototypes is worth a lot. I may have to convince the boss that he needs to buy me a CAM package or at least contribute. This will conflict a little with the fact that I appreciate being able to do parts for the company I work for. I talked to a Danish representative who was willing to give me a significant discount for hobby use.
Yes, finding an affordable CAM solution is a challenge. The company I work for has now bought a Solidworks licence for me, so I'll be moving away from QCAD as soon as I get familiar with SW and have found an affordable CAM solution that suits my needs. If you run into trouble, I won't mind helping you out.
Writing the post processor is no big deal.

The block feature in DXF is not supported in Sheetcam, and library parts in QCAD only support one layer, so there is a lot of manual work to do. Right now, I'm struggling with a part that has 12 identical pockets. Sheetcam is much better, even though it has it's limitations. I also own a CamExpert license, but at the time I tested it, it was of very little use for milling. I wanted to give graphite-one (3D) a try, but the company seems to have vanished. QCAD is ok for 2 1/2D work, but for complex parts, and for assemblies, it is easy to make errors. QCAD is also available for MAC.įor the type of work I do, QCAD and Sheetcam has been a very good place to start.

Still, even with full 3D available, for 2 1/2D parts, the time from idea to part using QCAD/Sheetcam will be very hard to beat, so it may be of use to others.Īnd, as I prefer not having to run Windows, I have to mention that QCAD and Sheetcam are available for both Windows and Linux. When I get time, I will work on a setup for full 3D. I think it offers very good value for money if you only need to do 2 1/2D work (unbeatable if you use the free versions :-) ). Miniterm/Linux or Hyperterminal/Windows - I will publish the setup files as soon as I have them optimized. I will publish the post processor as soon as it is tested. QCAD Pro, 37 USD - a free version is also available. Works with everything, Linux, Windows and probably also MAC without drivers. An USB adapter development kit from Farnell. The cable described in the beginning of this post I will write a small quick guide in a zip file, describing my setup, so that others can get from CAD drawing, over USB to machined part in one hour for less than 240 USD, including the USB to RS232 adapter. I got blind though, as always, I searched for the problem in the unknown part. It was the same problem with all microprocessor development kits from the same period. I should also have guessed the comm speed issue right away. The data folder in the zip is a tarball containing everything you need to run SheetCam. If that does not work you can simply unzip the file.
